Adult Literacy, Technology and Public Policy: An Analysis of the Southeastern United States Region
HUBS = LINCS Regional Partners
LINCS is a cooperative electronic network of the National Institute For Literacy (NIFL), four Regional Partners, and major national organizations. LINCS' home pages and communication sites bring all adult literacy-related resources, expertise, and knowledge to a single focal point.
The four LINCS Regional Partners (HUBS) are:
Eastern LINCS, Southern LINCS,
Midwest LINCS, and Western/Pacific LINCS.
These four Regional Partners (HUBS) are vital components of NIFL'S continuing
effort to enhance the capacity of the field through a strong national infrastructure for
electronic communications and information exchange.
Eastern LINCS
Eastern LINCS is an interactive resource for
expanding the community of literacy practitioners, students, and policymakers. This
on-line resource is funded by the National Institute for Literacy to assist the region in
enhancing communication and information-sharing about adult literacy. Eastern LINCS
is an evolving vehicle for professional development, improving practice, and building
coalitions.
Midwest
LINCS
Midwest LINCS, funded
through a grant from the National Institute for Literacy, is operating out of the Ohio
Literacy Resource Center at Kent State University. It is a focal point for strong
collaboration among the region's member states to provide literacy practitioners and adult
learners with high quality resources, technical assistance, and training in web
technology. Web sites have been developed for each state literacy resource center in
the twelve Midwest states--Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri,
Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Southern LINCS is a collaborative, technology-based system for sharing adult learning and literacy resources. In the southern region, LINCS is building the capacity of practitioners and adult learners to develop and use technology-based resources and is expanding communication links among members of the literacy community.
The primary goal of Western LINCS is to
establish an on-line interactive structure for increasing communication and sharing
information about adult literacy among eighteen western states and Pacific islands.
Located at the State Literacy Resource Center of California, Western LINCS,
in collaboration with the Outreach Technical Assistance Network (OTAN), has used
innovative technology to develop home pages for member states and has provided training,
technical assistance, and support for the adult education and literacy agencies in states
within the region.
