The following information was obtained from the Maine AHEC Health Literacy Center.

Printed information handed out in doctors' offices, clinics, and from managed care and health insurance agencies is very often written at high readability levels.  This impacts all consumers but particularly adults who experience reading difficulties.  However, changes are taking place and there is a good deal of information which would be useful to literacy and adult education teachers and providers.  Many teachers and tutors use the materials for contextual teaching and tutoring.  The following resource list is a beginning and you are urged to contact the organizations listed for copies of what is available.
