The Center is an organized research unit at the University of Southern California, facilitating the research collaboration, dissemination and professional development activities of faculty, students, and others across School of Education, university and outside organizational lines. Faculty in the Rossier School of Education developed the USC Center for Multilingual, Multicultural Research in the Spring of 1983, as a result of deliberations of the Dean's Task Force for Bilingual Cross-cultural Education. The Center provides a base for those interested in multilingual education, English as a Second Language, and foreign language instruction, multicultural education and related areas; and the opportunity to come together for research and program collaboration.

The American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP) is an organization of programs represented by their directors who:

1.  Promote ethical and professional standards for intensive English language programs.
2.  Encourage and facilitate evaluation of intensive English programs.
3.  Provide liaison between intensive English programs and other organizations whose concerns for international students overlap with those of AAIEP.
4.  Work to increase awareness abroad of opportunities for English language study in the United States.

The National Clearinghouse for Bilingual Education (NCBE) is funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Languages Affairs (OBEMLA) to collect, analyze, and disseminate information relating to the effective education of linguistically and culturally diverse learners in the U.S. NCBE provides information through its World Wide Web site and produces a bi-weekly news bulletin, Newsline, and manages a topical electronic discussion group, NCBE Roundtable.

The National Clearinghouse for ESL Literacy Education (NCLE), an adjunct ERIC Clearinghouse at the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL), is the only national clearinghouse focusing on literacy education, including family literacy, workplace literacy, and native language literacy, for adults and out-of-school youth learning English as a Second Language. NCLE's mission is to provide timely information about adult ESL literacy education.

REFORMA has actively sought to promote the development of library collections to include Spanish-language and Hispanic oriented materials; the recruitment of more bilingual and bicultural library professionals  and support staff; the development of library services and programs which meet the needs of the Hispanic community; the establishment of a national information and support network among individuals who share our goals; the education of the U.S. Hispanic population in regards to the availability and types of library services; and lobbying efforts to preserve existing library resource centers serving the interests of Hispanics.
